“Miles 4 Vets” Tournament Raises over $3,000 for Area Vets

A recent golf tournament at Forest Park Country Club offered a great opportunity for everyone to support our local veterans.

Mobility Management, part of the Southern Area Agency initiative, held their 2nd Annual “Miles 4 Vets” Golf Tournament at Forest Park on a beautiful day earlier this month. The tournament raised over $3,000 for the Miles 4 Vets program providing them with free transportation to and from the Salem VA Medical Center and the Danville Community-Based Outpatient Center.

Over 20 area businesses sponsored the event giving the golfers a range of prizes to shoot for, including a chance to win a new car. New golf clubs, a golf trip, a $500 dollar shopping spree, restaurant gift certificates, and a beautiful piece of Hooker Furniture were all on the prize list. Even Jonny Fairplay and “Big Tom” Buchanan of the CBS show “Survivor” were among the golfers who played.

Miles 4 Vets cost about $2,000 a month to take over 100 veterans to the doctor. Federal grants don’t cover all the costs, so donations and fundraisers like the golf tournament are needed to pay the bills and keep the program going.

Mobility Management posted on their facebook page after the event “A Big Thank You, to all who came out and participated, sponsored and volunteered in the 2nd Annual Miles 4 Vets Golf Tournament!!! Thanks to you we were able to raise over $3,000.00… I would especially like to thank Forest Park Country Club for all their help and support in organizing and making this event successful!!!”

The “Park” would like to thank Mobility Management for serving those who have served. We are proud to have hosted your golf tournament!
